BHC - 2009 Health Profiles
The following Health Profiles present important data from the 2009 California Health Interview Survey Oversample for 14 Building Healthy Communities (BHC) communities. They provide a snapshot of key health findings at the beginning of the BHC planning process and can be used to track change over time. They can also be used to mobilize friends and neighbors, advocate for improved health, secure greater resources, and guide community planning.

The Health Profiles describe the health of young adults (age 40 and younger), parents of children age 18 and younger, teens and children living in the BHC sites.
For each health indicator, an estimate for the BHC site is presented and compared to an estimate for the county and state. Learn more about the BHC data and read our Frequently Asked Questions.
Health topics presented in the profiles were selected based on The California Endowment's BHC priority areas and include: insurance coverage, health care access and utilization, health conditions, physical activity, nutrition, neighborhood perceptions, civic engagement, safety and violence.
